Types of DDoS attacks

The Distributed Denial Of Service attacks are primarily classified into three classes being volume-based, protocol/network layer and application layer.

These are classified based on what exactly is being targeted, which layer of the OSI model to be precise. For instance, the Volume-based attacks attack the 3rd layer, network-layer attacks attack the 4th and the last one attacks the 7th.
